COSEEZY’s Top 10 Kicks of 2017

by Chris "COSeezy" Strachan | 1 year ago

NBA Signature Shoe of the Year

Nike: Paul George’s Signature Sneaker: The PG1

To me the PG1’s were the perfect mix of style and comfort. I love straps on kicks and this one is perfectly placed. These wouldn’t be my first choice overall to

rock off the court but they definitely have a much better off-court look and feel than recent signature kicks.

Honorable Mention

KAWS x Air Jordan 4 (Grey)

Nike strikes again with the dope collab between popular graffiti artist KAWS and Nike. Collaborations like this add a little spice e to re-releases.

TOP 10

10. Adidas Yeezy Boost V2 “Bred”

I got a lot of wears out of these. They were my go to out of all of my Yeezy’s. Dope colorways!

9. The Air Jordan 1 High OG Gold Top

I loved what they did with the Melo 1’s and since I’m a huge fan of the Jordan 1’s anyway, I feel like these are a win for all of us.

8. Nike Off White Blazer

These kicks look mad old school. I love it. I’ve been a big Blazer fan since back in like ‘07. I loved what Virgil did with these! Simple, white and black with that dropped Nike swoosh gives it a super throwback feel.

7. Nike x Travis Scott Air Force 1’s (Uptowns for my New Yorkers)

Sidenote: New Yorkers refer to Air Force 1’s as “Uptowns” because of how popular they were in Harlem(Uptown) back in the 80’s) My favorite part of this sneaker is the removable Swoosh. You can take off the swoosh and mix and match with Velcro options for you to give the shoe its own unique persona. My favorite look has to be the silver swoosh. Travis Scott had my favorite pair of Uptowns of the 5 (The double swoosh on that vinyl with the gym bottom (gum bottoms are undefeated!) Travis bodied this collab.

6. Adidas: Yeezy Powerphase

I love a simple sneaker where the majority of the sneaker is in one color and I think these would look great in jeans. The subtle metallic “Calabasas” on sneaker make it look like an upgrade over the old Reebok’s.

5. Balenciaga Speed Trainer

I LOVE these kicks on women. Especially when the pants stop short of covering the top of the sneaker. That entire shoe MUST be shown.  This shoe is perfect for the summer. (unless you live in Cali)

4. Nike: Off White Jordan 1’s

These kicks are dope! I’m a really big fan of the Jordan 1’s and I LOVE red so for me these are easy to love. I feel like you can’t go wrong with the white/ red colorway. This shoe screams “80’s to me which I love especially for the Jordan 1 because when I see it I think about MJ with rockin’ the old Chicago jersey with cursive lettering, flying thru the air and casually transforming the culture. The off white actually adds sort of a “dingy” authentic feel, like you had those kicks tucked away in the closet for mad long. Super dope!

This wasn’t easy because I loved MAD kicks this year. It was hard to come up with a “Top 10”. For my final 3 I wanted to make my top 3, 3 different categories of footwear. I broke it down to my favorite sneaker that’s comfortable but still looks ill, a boot because it’s the beginning of winter and the kicks that really made me say “wow, those are HARD”.  HERE WE GO!

3.ADIDAS ORIGINALS HU NMD (Chanel x Pharrell x Adidas)

This year, I wore mostly NMD’s. They were my favorite line of kicks this year and I may have every colorway!  But these Pharrell NMD’s are the best ones I’ve seen. I wasn’t really a fan of how most of Pharrell’s “Human Race” looked with jeans last year so I wasn’t as hype as everyone else about them but THESE ARE OFFICIAL! It’s a super simple colorway with the names of all parties involved BLASTED down the sneaker. Sounds mad obnoxious huh?

2. Fear Of God High Top Sneaker

The Fear Of God high top sneakers are my go-to’s if I don’t want to throw on a pair of constructs (wheat Timberland boots, for all my non-New Yorkers). I love how high they are. The jeans fall so well in or over them. The colors they dropped are perfect for the winter time too.

1. FBCC VV1’s

Photos by Kick’n It

My favorite kicks of the year go to my man Dee-Nyce. He’s the first person I’ve met that made a sneaker from scratch, (let alone make one that I would really like and want to get fly in!) I have mad respect for someone who can build something from scratch and get me, a New Yorker (New Yorkers aren’t impressed by anything) who really is passionate about the integrity of sneakers and it takes a certain level of authenticity for me REALLY rock with a pair of kicks.  I’ve seen these kicks on small feet, doofy feet, kid’s feet and woman’s feet. The illest part about this sneaker is that it looks good on EVERYBODY with all styles.

2017 showed ya boy mad love but in 2018, I want to work way harder and really focus on getting more consistent with giving you my heart for sneakers & hip-hop culture. I truly believe the culture is transcendent and knows no race, gender, religion etc. I want to continue to use sneaker culture as a vehicle to unite people and spread love. I want to focus on being the change that I want to see in the world. Keep rockin’ with your boy this year. I will do my part in breathing life into all of my loved ones and everyone that I come in contact with, I encourage you to do the same.
